Hi my name is Archie. This weekend, the optimist Connachts were on. An optimist is a small dinghy that you sail by yourself. The Connachts is an all-Ireland event which lasts for two days. We sailed in the River Shannon which was really because of the tide. I came sixth overall and first in the silver fleet. I was in junior fleet which is under 13s. We did three races even though we were supposed to do six, but on the first day the tide was too strong. I really enjoyed the event.

Cumann na mBunscol Santry 2016
On Monday 23rd May, six students travelled to Morton Stadium in Santry to represent Saint Mary’s in the U11, U12 and U14 600m run as the first of two days of the Cumann na mBunscol games in Santry. The students all ran extremely well and represented our school with distinction in this year’s run. A huge congratulations to Iseult who managed to ward off very tough competition to place third in the U12 run! Well done to Iseult and to all our talented runners! Best luck to the 40 students heading out to Santry on Wednesday to compete in the sprints and relays!

Eason’s Spelling Bee
Well done to Rebecca for representing St. Mary’s in the Eason’s Spelling Bee in April. Here she tells us about her experience:
“On the 21st of April I went to the Eason’s Spelling Bee in the Red Cow on Naas road. The competition started at 11:00. We had a practice round before the competition began. There were 80 students participating in the competition. After the practice round we started. There were 7 rounds and I got to the second last round. Overall, I came 8th out of 80 students. I really enjoyed the whole experience and learnt a lot of new spellings. I was presented with a certificate and some stationary from Eason’s.”
6th Class Confirmation
Congratulations to the girls and boys in 6th class who were confirmed yesterday in the Sacred Heart Church in Donnybrook. The children were confirmed by Msgr O’ Brien in a beautiful and reverent ceremony. This is a very special occasion in the lives of the candidates and it marks the first step on their road to adulthood. The ceremony was enhanced by the beautiful singing of St. Mary’s choir made up of 3rd, 4th and 5th class children. The congregation was treated to wonderful performances by Ms. O’ Loughlin (teacher) on the harp and Sidi Bao, (a 6th class student) on the violin.
We are grateful to Msgr O’ Brien for confirming one of our 5th class students yesterday as she will be living abroad next year and wished to be confirmed with the children from St.Mary’s.
Leinster Rugby visited St. Mary’s for a day, and what a day it was! Check out the pictures (in the album below) of 4th, 5th and 6th class trying out their skills with the boys in blue!
Parents’ Association Family Walk 2016
Many thanks to all the families who came out and joined in with our family walk on Sunday 17th April 2016. It was a beautiful sunny day and we had a great turnout of over 200. We had lots of furry friends join us too! Head on over to the Parents’ Association page or the gallery to see the photographs from the day.
Inter schools Cross Country 2016
A huge congratulations to the boys and girls who represented St. Mary’s for the first time in the Inter schools Cross Country race, which took place on the 10th March 2016 in St. Enda’s park, Rathfarnham. There were 25 schools and over 500 children competing on what was a difficult and long course: 1 km for the girls and 1.5 km for the boys. The girls’ team brought home bronze medals after their team placed third in what was very tough competition. Juliana and Iseult narrowly missed out on the top six, placing seventh and ninth respectively in a race of 150 girls. The boys were competing among 350 runners and all ran a strong and proud race. James managed to place 42nd out of 350 runners. A wonderful achievement from both teams!
Each and every one of our athletes deserves commendation for the level of commitment, support and dedication they showed both in training and on the day itself. They did a wonderful job in representing our school and we look forward to participating again next year. A warm thank you to Barbara, Patricia and Clodagh who gave up their time to bring the children to and from the event.
Well done to Ella, Jenny, Grace, Iseult, Juliana and Lilian on the girls’ team and to Jamie, James, Andrew, Stephen, Diarmuid and Elliott on the boys’ team. Watch this space – exceptional running talent from these children! Click into our gallery to see some pictures from the day.
Hi I’m Clíodhna!
I won an iPad from the MS Readathon because I raised €80. I was put into a draw to win one of five iPads in Ireland. I got really lucky!
Comhghairdeas to Sidi who was awarded 1st Prize in the Junior Violin and the Junior Chamber Cup in the Feis Ceoil last week!
Interschools Music Festival / Córfhéile na Scoileanna 2016
Congratulations to our school choir on coming 3rd in the Interschools Music Festival in Wesley College on Friday. This is a wonderful achievement for a choir in its first competitive performance and in the words of the adjudicator “a choir to look out for in the future”! The choir sang ‘Lightning’, a challenging piece by Greg Gilpin full of contrasting dynamics and tempo.
The choir also sang at the official opening of Córfhéile na Scoileanna on Tuesday 1 March. The choir sang beautifully and received extremely positive words from the moltóir on the night. Well done to all involved!

Congratulations to Ella on her successful audition for RTE Cór na nÓg. This is a wonderful opportunity for Ella and we are delighted for her. Ella is a member of our school choir who performed so well at the Oscailt Oifigiúil of Cór Fhéile on Tuesday night.

A message from the Green Schools Committee
We attended the Green School’s water forum as the model school today in Pearse Street Library. This meant that we had to present and show a PowerPoint presentation about all we’ve achieved in the past number of years to other schools working on the water flag. We showed how creative we’ve been in everything we’ve done. Last year we watched the model school show their work and were inspired. We hope we have inspired others this year.
You can hear more about our work on the Green Schools expo on the 25th of February. We will be there talking how we were the Dublin region Water School of the Year in 2015.
